Foaling Surveillance
We make sure that your mare has the best conditions for a successful foaling.
- The stalls are well proportioned, provided with camera.
- We have over 30 years of experience with in average of 25 foals at year.
- We have good contact with veterinary who can come out quickly if something goes wrong.
We increase the feed another 2 months before foaling and 1 month before, we move the mare into a foaling stall equipped with a camera.
In addition to the daily examinations, we also check the udder and pelvic girdle.
When we see that it is starting to approach, we monitor the mare around the clock.
At the actual foaling, we are there to help the mare and make sure everything looks good. We make sure that the foal is breathing properly, that the umbilical cord looks as it should and what gender it is.
After we leave the mare and foal to themselves for a while, we come back to see how they are doing. If necessary, we help both mare and foal to get to know each other (that the foal can stand up, find the food, that it poops, that the mare accepts the foal, that the mare eats and drinks as she should afterwards and that the afterbirth releases as it should). We also check that the placenta is intact and that it has no discoloration or other abnormalities.
Health check of the foals
We offer a larger and more comprehensive health check on your foal when the time comes!
This includes:
- Check of the mares milk in the refraktometer
- SNAP foal igG (the foal needs to be 18-72 hours)
- Listen to heart and lungs
- More advanced check of the foals' leg posture
- Check of the umbilical
- Tempcheck the first 5 days ocf both mare and foal
